DailyQuickie: Doing “The Stairs”
Where: Santa Monica Stairs (where the athletes and celebs train at the outdoor free gym)
When: Thursday, Oct 27th
Why: CHANGE WITH CHANGE. If you want to lose weight and get fit, it’s not about making 10 changes. It’s about making 1 change. Then 1 more. Today, my change is to add a Weekly stairs workout to my Daily walk. I’m not going to add the stairs to my walk everyday… it’s overkill and I feel like I will be over it really fast PLUS my quads tend to bulk and daily stairs is pretty much a sure fire way to trigger my very sensitive muscle memory. So instead, I’m adding the stairs once a week. The idea is that if you shock your muscles on occasion, you will burn more calories, tone new infrequently used muscles, and therefore burn more fat. Let the fat burning begin!!!
What: The Santa Monica Stairs are known as the free outdoor gym for local celebs, athletes, and socialites. It’s a long set of wooden steps located a few blocks from the beach and they have become a Santa Monica institution. I have never been to the stairs and not seen someone else there working out- regardless of if it’s 5am, 3pm, or 9pm. It’s also common to see personal trainers calling out commands behind their clients, motivating them to walk faster, take 2 steps in one, lift their knees, walk up sideways, don’t hunch forward, etc… Great people watching. Oh, and an AMAZING sweat session. Today I did 5 sets. Each week I will *try* to add one more.
